My Doll Making Adventure…

When I was born, my mum started a Dolly Collection.

Everywhere she travelled, she got me a Custom Doll.

It was not until I was 21, depressed, stuck and hopeless, when I would stare at part of the collection, which was displayed next to my computer, and I felt an urge to start dolly making.

I told my mother about my feelings and she was totally supportive. She came with me to the old town where there were old crafts shops and we bought books to doll make, felts and more materials.

I spent the next 3 months doll making and made amazing little dolls…. I sent them to the friends I most missed from University, and the dolls were greatly appreciated.

Soon after this I found a job and got into the work market. The work stress made me ill again, and I slumped into depression.

I forgot about the dolls for 14 years, but they were always at the back of my mind.

Doll making is fun, creative, very hard work and very rewarding.

Once back in London I told my nurse I wanted to make dollies. She found me a course, but I was too late to enroll, so I started buying doll making books on Amazon.

I started making amazing dollies again and giving them away.

It’s funny, after you make a great doll you need about 2 weeks of rest before you can start a new one. It’s a very demanding hobby.

Dolls are like children- no matter what idea you set up in your mind for them to come out like, they always emerge with a personality of their very own!

Now I am making dollies for my Church and teaching doll making to a Charity. I also make stuffed animals and I have sold one to a friend.

If you are crafty, have time, a lot to express and have a wild imagination, I definitely recommend this endeavour.

Hand made dollies are very much in Demand at the moment, and yes it takes a lot of effort to master the skill, but the rewards are priceless. You can even make it your side hustle!

Here are some dolls I have crafted myself, I hope you like them….

Have a great day!
